"China Magic Balls!" - What is this material?

For sometime now, hawkers in buses and trains and everywhere are selling something interesting - some very small colorful balls (and also transparent ones) that grows in size when soaked in water for several hours. These swollen balls look very pretty and they are being sold mainly as items of room decoration.

In normal condition (when they are dry), these balls are very small (0.1 - 0.3 cm in diameter) and quite hard. But once you put them in water for 6-7 hours they grow many times and become as large as 1.5 cm in diameter. And they also become very soft and elastic like rubber balls.

    where can i buy these from as i have a transparent 1 but i want more and colour full ones pleasse please tell me i would love to know!!

Comet Lulin Comes Closer

Comet Lulin will be on its closest approach (.41 AU) to earth on 24th February. It will not be much bright though (Max. magnitude 4.0 - 5.0). Still on a dark sky you may be able to spot it as a white splotch against the black sky. Look for it in the constellation Leo [ skymap ]. It will lie only a few degrees from saturn. The comet actually looks green through powerful telescopes. This is because, its gassy atmosphere, of the size of Jupiter, contains cyanogen(CN) and diatomic carbon(C 2 ), both glow green in sunlight.
