Going LCD

I have just replaced my old CRT monitor with an TFT LCD monitor. It is an LG 17 inch wide model ( L177WSB ). It costed Rs. 8500/-. The main advantage of LCD monitor is perhaps its low power consumption. Also its wide screen gives lots of workspace. Its normal resolution is 1440 x 900. All my linux based operating systems ( ubuntu , PCLinuxOS ) got automatically configured with this resolution. But I think 1280 x 800 is better as you don't have to strain your eyes to read the small letters. Setting the correct resolution in windows was somewhat, problematic. It was perhaps because of my old graphics card (i810). In the left is Windows xp running at a resolution 1152x968. If you correct aspect ratio (16:10) is not maintained pictures will look widened as is the case with me. Installing the drivers given with the CD does not help much. Arthur C. Clarke Passed Away

The great man Arthur C. Clarke , the British science fiction author, science popularizer and futurist, died yesterday (19 March, 2008) at an age of 90. He was born in Somerset, England on 16 December, 1917. He had been living in Sri Lanka for the last 50 years. He was best known for his novel 2001: A Space Odyssey . Among his numerous contributions to science and technology, the most notable is perhaps his proposal for satellite communication systems. Microsoft has released the next version of Internet Explorer for public download. Internet Explorer 8 has some new and exciting features such as Activities, WebSlices, Automatic Crash Recovery etc. For IE8 incompatible websites it has a feature called "Emulate IE7" with which you can browse like you did in IE7. Getting Your Own Domain Name

Recently I bought a new domain in my name. Thank god it was available! It seems there is not any cool domain name left! I hosted this blog at blog.samiksaha.com which you may be seeing now. Domain names are not very costly. You can get one for Rs. 500/- or $7 per year or even at lower rates. I bought it from rediff . But some better domain registrars are GoDaddy.com , Yahoo Small Business , EasyDNS , 1and1 etc. When choosing domain name keep in mind the following rules It shoud be short It can be remembered easily It cannot be easily misspelt
