Discovery Of Most Recent Supernova In Our Galaxy

The most recent supernova in our Galaxy has been discovered by tracking the rapid expansion of its remains. This result, using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and NRAO's Very Large Array , has implications for understanding how often supernovas explode in the Milky Way galaxy. The last time anyone saw a supernova explosion in the Milky Way was in 1980, almost 330 years ago. This supernova explosion (G1.9+0.3) occurred about 140 years ago. But it was not detected so far because it occured in a dense region of gas and dust. But the expanding gas cloud shines brightly in X- Rays and radio waves making it detectable through X- Ray and Radio telescopes. NASA Phoenix Mission Ready For Mars Landing

Image
NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander is preparing to end its long journey and begin a three-month mission to taste and sniff fistfuls of Martian soil and buried ice. The solar-powered robotic lander will manipulate a 2.35 meter arm (7.7 foot) to scoop up samples of underground ice and soil lying above the ice. Onboard laboratory instruments will analyze the samples. One research goal is to assess whether conditions at the site ever have been favorable for microbial life. Long awaited summer vacation

My 3rd year exams just finished two days ago. The question papers seemed relatively easy this year. May be that is because some of my favourite subjects (like Computer Networks and OS) were there. Well, now I have a long summer vacation ahead. New session will start in July. Though I have works for a project I am doing at the university, I wish to use this vacation to learn some new things like mobile device programming, python etc and increase my knowledge in science and astronomy. Also, I like to travel somewhere if I could. Wish everyone a happy summer vacation!
